Move to New York and Film Studies

Fascinated by filmmaking and the world of cinema, Latin Joe later moved to New York City to pursue greater opportunities in the entertainment industry.

In New York, he studied Sound Engineering and Electronics at the historic RCA School and Studios. He later expanded his education into Photography and Filmmaking, developing a strong technical and artistic understanding of motion pictures, sound production, editing, and cinematography.

Determined to deepen his knowledge of acting and dramatic performance, Latin Joe also studied film acting with the renowned Puerto Rican actress and founder of the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, Miriam Colón, a Co-Star in the Film Scarface, with AL Pacino.

“MONO” Original song by Latin Joe based on the life and story of one of his brothers-in-law, who was nicknamed “Mono”. A sad story made into a song.His name was Tomas Robles, and Mono was
a nickname he was given. He always lived on the streets of Brooklyn. Everything he did was only for his vices. Mono died in the 80s, a victim of AIDS. Latin Joe decided to compose this song in 2020 in his memory,Stating that tributes should not be paid to celebrities only.

A respected career .

Over the years, Latin Joe built a respected career as a filmmaker, producer, and director.

He worked on many American and Latin American productions.

He participated in the creation of documentaries, short films, independent productions, and music videos.

Throughout his professional journey, he collaborated with distinguished actors and entertainment figures including Geraldine Chaplin, Rod Steiger, Jaime Sánchez, Ossie Davis, Ilka Tanya Payán, Tommy Vargas, and many other artists of the silver screen.

Companies such as Precision Deluxe Film Labs, CPD Camera, Cee Dee Studios Inc., Haverland Films Studios, and the World famous Magno Sound Studios in New York.

Magno Sound

Magno Sound was internationally recognized for soundtrack mixing and dubbing work connected to Mayor Feature Film productions like legendary filmmaker Federico Fellini, including the classic film 8½, as well as television productions Mixings such as Kojak, starring Telly Savalas. Several Puerto Rican films were mixed in that studio with the assistance of Latin Joe, who was the editor of those productions.

Multi-Talented Artist and Creative Visionary

In addition to filmmaking, Latin Joe continued developing his talents as an oil painter, illustrator, graphic designer, songwriter, and singer. His artistic career has always reflected versatility and originality, moving naturally between visual arts, cinema, music, and storytelling.

In the late 1990s, Latin Joe moved to the beautiful and famous island of Vieques, also known as “La Isla Nena” (The Litle Girl Island) because it is a municipality belonging to the main island of Puerto Rico. It was there that he joined one of the largest popular movements. The people of Vieques were fighting to remove the U.S. Navy from areas they were using for military exercises, which were causing widespread Contamination, disease, and death among the inhabitants.There, Latin Joe, better known as Andres or Andy, lost a close friend (German Perez Guerra), with whom he had worked on film productions in New York, to terminal cancer caused by contamination with heavy metals, such as depleted uranium, gunpowder, and other pollutants detected in blood and hair samples.
German Perez was also a native of Vieques and also decided to return to his little island.
Andres decided to join and volunteer for “The Committee for the Rescue and Development of Vieques” as a Documentarian, Sound Engineer, and Graphic Artist. There he met great figures of the Vieques struggle such as Ismael Guadalupe, Roberto Rabin, Nilda Medina, Prieto Ventura, Don Carlos Zenón, The renowned activist, actress, painter, craftswoman, singer, and arts teacher, Myrna Pagán.

After all this, Andres, by then better known as Don Andres, produced over 35 documentaries related to the great struggle of the people of Vieques, as well as songs, music videos, and two feature films (Tito and the Manta Ray, and The Hidden Haven). Throughout this time, Andres never mentioned that he had previously been known as “Latin Joe” in New York.
nor did he ever mention his work as a songwriter and singer to anyone.
After the Navy abandoned its training exercises in Vieques,
Don Andres created an interesting collection of movie posters. Later, he also decided to record his own songs and create album covers, choosing to continue using his stage name, “Latin Joe.” Donandres;Latin Joe, wrote and recorded a great song that touches on this delicate subject deeply and uncensored: “Vieques Zombie Island”, (“Vieques; Isla de los Zombies”), In English and in Spanish and you’ll get an idea of what happened on the famous island of Vieques. Continued writing songs inspired by life experiences

For decades, he continued writing songs inspired by life experiences, social realities, spirituality, love, human emotions, and cultural identity. Many of his lyrics reflect social struggles, while others express a spiritual and uplifting message.

The Musical Journey of Latin Joe

After many years of writing music, and encouraged by family members and friends, Latin Joe finally decided to record and preserve the extensive collection of songs he had created throughout his lifetime.

In recent years, he has also written new lyrics and compositions, adding a modern and refreshed dimension to his musical collection.
